Dr. Quyyumi During The Community Health Fair - 834 Words

I had the opportunity to work with Dr. Quyyumi during the Community Health Fair that is held twice every year. This charity clinic provides care for underserved and uninsured patients. My duties included patient triage, focused history and physical exam, blood drawing and performing pap smears. The experience allowed me to practice my clinical skills and provide care to patients in need. I participated in taking patients histories, doing physical examinations, reviewing lab results and prescribing the appropriate treatment, I helped in performing administrative duties and updating patients’ medical records. At the clinic’s pharmacy, I assisted the pharmacist in explaining the medication route of administration, dosing, and frequency. The mineral assets of the company are determined by estimating the present value of the future cash flow that would arise from the continuous use of the assets. This would involve any disposal of assets, prospects of the future expansion. The company arrives at the net present value of the assets by discounting at the appropriate rate. When the calculations for the revaluation of the assets are performed then the assets are referred to as the cash generating units and are considered as the collective groups. These units, which generate cash, are the identifiable group of liabilities, assets and it also include goodwill that would generate the cash flows, and these are independent of any other group of assets (BHP Billiton.com, 2016). The revaluation of the non-current assets of the Rio Tinto limited is independent from the cash generated from any other current assets. The company revalues its goodwill and other intangible assets regardless of any need of being revalued. The company when revaluing the assets considers several other factors. The market price of the mineral assets, costs and the future price of the commodities are considered so as to monitor the need for impairment. The forecasting of the price of the ore reserves is generally consistent with the forecasting done for the assessment of the revaluation. The observable input is used to measure the recoverable amount. The mine plan of the company takes into account all the characteristics of the ore body such as haul distances, waste to ore ratios, chemical properties of ore, which would affect the process of the amount to be recovered. The long term plan of production and the life of mine would form the basis of the forecasting of the prices which is also one of the factors leading to the revaluation of the non-current assets (Yao et al., 2015). The two companies have based their revaluation of their non-current assets using several factors, which are internal as well as external to their operation. The internal factors indicating the need of revaluation comes from the reviewing of the need for the impairment. Night Of The Iguana Leah Calvert Critique on Night of the Iguana Drama 11 November 4, 1998 A reverend's constant struggle for decency, preserving life, and moving forward while escaping the past are among the primary thematic characteristics in Tennessee Williams's Night of the Iguana. By far one of the most personal shows I have seen, this play seems to speak to each audience member uniquely; I at least found this true of Furman Theater's presentation. Although the leading roles lacked in their presentation, the supporting characters where convincing and extremely engaging, pulling the intimate theater's audience into the story. Overall, the production elements heightened the audiences viewing experience. Costuming and scenery complemented each other particularly well, creating an environment and period that enveloped the audience in the play's setting. Without a doubt, this was a job well done for Furman Theater. Maxine is the proprietor of The Costa Verde, a cheap Mexican motel. Her character is established from the first few moments of the play along with her Mexican night-swimmers. Their personalities exude an odd mixture of promiscuity, loneliness, and satisfaction. With the entrance of the once minister now tour guide, Larry Shannon, and his bus load of ladies from the Baptist Female College, this satisfaction is eliminated and replaced with the pain of indecency in a defrocked minister. Shannon's justification for arriving at the Costa Verde is to rest and escape form the constant chatter and uplifting songs of the female tour group. But in reality, his condition is much more serious; he is both mentally and physically ill and feels as though the Costa Verde can act as a safe haven from the rest the world. With his tarnished reputation in the church, Shannon also has a need to be atoned for the sins he has committed. In doing this, he hopes to purify himself enough to return the pulpit. The insatiable need for companionship and understanding are recognized immediately in both Shannon and Maxine. Regardless of the sarcastic comments between the two, the audience is easily convinced that both characters could provide friendship for the other. Unfortunately, with the entrance of Hannah Jelkes, a quick sketch artist, and her ninety-year young grandfather and poet, Nonno, Williams no longer elaborates on the the relationship of Maxine and Shannon; instead he shifts focus to Shannon's admiration for Ms.Jelkes through his constant use of fantastic. Shannon and Hannah's bond is established from their first hello. Shannon's face seems to say, Where have you been all my life? Even though her reaction is not as strong in the beginning, she steadily warms to his character. The two become fast friends, eventually uncovering each others the deepest secrets; Shannon revealing his pedophile tendencies while Hannah explains her two love experiences. As in Moliere's Misanthrope, the two main characters seem so different in the beginning, but we finally discover the two are very similar through the compassion as well as the conversations between Hannah and Shannon. It is because of these similarities that they could not travel together. It is in these final scenes that each character seems to realize their place; Shannon excepts his need for the companionship of Maxine, Hannah realizes her need for stability, and Nonno feels the desire to finish his final poem. With these revelations, Nonno dies peacefully. As Assistant Stage Manager, I found myself watching the play on several occasions; therefore, my opinion may have a tendency to be more in favor of or contrarily, a bit harsh on the acting and direction of the show. It must first be said that in theater giving someone a chance to play a role is necessary for the development of an actor's own ability. Unfortunately, it seemed that Oney took too great of a risk when casting Meggin Stailely as the forty-year-old spinster. Granted, her performance progressively improved during the run of the show, but it never peaked. At times the actress seemed almost angelic with her bright eyes and young figure. Her performance as Hannah Jelkes was not only unconvincing, but her movements on stage were awkward and unnatural. Makeup, costume, and the director's blocking could possibly be to blame for the shortcomings in her character, but from the first rehearsal to the last performance, Stailey's portrayal of Hannah seemed unimproved. In spite of the fact that some kept wondering why the Patriots even appeared on the Super Bowl with the deflating scandal behind, the players proved that Super Bowl was about football, not footballs. To their justice, the game was thrilling, heart-stopping and made us nervous! Forget about the last two seasons, even this game gave no certainty the New England Patriots can really win. We could not relax and be sure in victory almost until the end of the game. All we had is our deep belief. Luckily, it paid off; they won the Super Bowl this time! They did†¦ and we can’t be happier. Thank you, Malcolm Butler, for putting an end to all our doubts. You sealed this victory. I mean, did you see that? A reminder: it was Malcolm Butler who intercepted opponents pass in the end zone with just 26 seconds left until the end of the game. Malcolm Butler was not the only hero of this game. Tom Brady led his team to four touchdowns, breaking Joe Montana Super Bowl record. He completed all eight passes, including the one to Julian Edelman who later said: â€Å"Tom Brady came out here, he’s been to six Super Bowls, he’s won four with the salary cap. It’s hard to argue against that.† Butler shook the Seahawks defense claimed to be the strongest asset of their team and the best NFL has. His last catch had a nauseating effect the Seahawks and you could literally see! Tom Brady won his third Most Valuable Player. Eleven years have passed since he won his second one. This is the fourth victory after the Patriots lost three Super Bowls in a row. That was a real down for all of us, fans since they got us used to winning before. Reminder again: the Patriots won three Super Bowls in four years about a decade ago. Thank you for being back on track, guys! Was it only their talent and persistence that got them the trophy? Maybe the break in the team’s routine contributed too. As far as we know, Bill Belichick gave the whole day off for the team before the game instead of a usual walkthrough. That was something new. I guess that rest was crucial for the players. We must admit that Seattle did not quit. The Seahawks showed class. Kearse showed impressive 33-yard catch. Marshawn Lynch rushed for 4 yards, then backup cornerback Butler, who was victimized on Kearses reception, made the biggest play of his first NFL season with 20 seconds remaining. The Seahawks did their best to become the first repeat champions of NFL since New England a decade ago. However, it was not meant to happen this time. The game taught Seattle a lot of mental toughness, though. The game marked by emotions, records, thrill and awards. The biography I chose was The Express: The Ernie Davis Story. Its about an inspirational and heroic African American Football player. Robert C. Gallagher wrote this book. Ernie Davis passed away when he was only 23 years old from leukemia. (Gallagher, 151). Even though his life was short he treated others with dignity grace and compassion. The life he led made him a hero. He was considered by professionals in his field to be one of the best running backs ever. He was most famous for being the first African American to win the Heisman trophy (Gallagher, 1). Davis was born, in New Salem, Pennsylvania on December 14, 1939 (Gallagher, 15). His parents were separated, and his father was killed in an auto accident before Davis was born. When Ernie was born his father was deceased and his mother struggled to raise Ernie. She found out that she could not take care of him on her own. When Ernie was about a year old his mother sent him to her parents home to live (Gallagher, 19). His grandparents, Willie and Elizabeth Davis had twelve children. Willie worked hard as a coal miner and Elizabeth was a homemaker who cared for the children. They raised all of the children including Ernie equally and with the same amount of love. Ernie called his grandparents mom and dad because he was treated just like their other children. He learned to be generous and appreciative by living in a big family. His grandparents also taught Ernie to have a strong trusting, relationship with God (Gallagher, 20). Ernie grew up playing with his older uncles. They spent a large amount of time together and he learned many great lessons about sports from them. When Ernie prepared to enter high school, his mother asked him to return to her. Ernie had a hard time ... ... and showed that he had less than a year to live (Gallagher, 124). Ernie went through chemotherapy and spent two months in and out of hospitals On October 4, 1962 his doctor finally explained the extent of his illness to him. He also told Davis he could continue to play football if his disease went into remission. Amazingly his leukemia went into remission. His coach made the difficult decision to keep him on the sidelines (Gallagher, 151). Ernie never complained about his sickness. He remained hopeful that he could beat the disease and refused any pity offered by others. He was always gracious and he never complained to the people who helped him. In the end after all his struggles, on May 18, 1963, Ernie Davis passed away (Gallagher, 124). 160 â€Å"Ernie was one of the finest football players, but more important the finest gentleman I’ve ever known†(Gallagher,167).

He promised to end inequality, corruption and the economic dependency on USA. With these aims, he implemented economic policies to generate economic growth. The ups and downs of Cuba’s economic performance had not affected the state’s considerable investment in social reform, foreign aid and military involvement.Underpinned by long term credit and trade agreements with USSR, the Cubans had achieved standards of health and literacy rivaling those of developed countries. After his coming to power, Castro had managed to reduce the infant mortality rate, a yardstick of development of development from 60 per thousand live children in 1958 to 13. 2 in 1980. On the eve of the revolution there had been one doctor for 5,000 Cubans, whereas thi rty years later there was one per 400. Average life expectancy had risen from 74 to 57 and only 2 percent of the population was illiterate compared to 24 percent in 1958.All children of primary school age now attended schools whereas only 56 percent had done so before the revolution. The bare figures conceal the extent of social and economic change in Cuba. Castro’s reform aimed to introduce social justice and allow all sectors of society to have equal oppurtunities. Reforms in health, education and the treatment of women and of minorities were implemented among other areas. Some of these reforms clashed with Cuban traditions and culture. Hence, arts played a fundamental role in designing a new Cuban culture in which for instance, the role of women as workers was implemented and promoted.Castro’s social policies had their main targets as women and education. It evaluated the part played by FMC and the literacy campaign to change the status of women and promote educatio n. One of the most significant changes brought about by the Cuban Revolution has been to the lives and status of women. Women enjoyed few rights and were expected to sacrifice not just their academic potential and broader interests, but also their health and happiness in order to ensure the stability and wellbeing of the family. In cases of maltreatment by men, despite the existence of laws forbidding such treatment, women were given minimal support by the police and the legal establishment. The status of women in Cuba by 1959 was different f rom that in many latin American countries.They were only given right to vote in 1934. The 1940 constitution also granted them equality before the law where women could not be discriminated against a work and were to receive equal pay for work. Although women were allowed to vote, study, ad even sue for divorce, pre-revolutionary Cuba remained in many ways a traditional society. Only a few occupations like teaching and nursing were considered to be appropriate for women in the pre-revolutionary years. They were victims of discrimination at work as the jobs with greater pay and responsibility went to men.Hence in the middle and upper classes, men preferred women to stay at home. The defense to the rights of women at work was largely a response to Cuba’s economic needs. Castro had an aim to achieve modernization and industrialization and to do so women were needed to produce record harvests, woman needed to join the workforce. New legislations were passed reinforcing the equal r ights of men and women to access all types of jobs. They were offered training at technical and professional levels. They had entered the fields which were men dominated, such as construction, biotechnology and IT.In villages the Agrarian reforms had offerd women the opportunity for work in areas like driving and repair of equipment. To facilitate this change and support the women, Castro facilitated the opening of an increasing numbers of daycare centers for working women to help them join the work force. Under Castro, women were expected to work for long hours in the agricultural fields leaving alone their homes and families for long intervals however this most often made conflicts with their husbands. To solve this problem, Castro came up with a new family code which stipulated equality of both the sexes at home and work.Men were expected to share their household duties and the education of children. Despite this Castro had to admit that the presence of women on work fields was a lways lower than expected. The policies made by Castro were aimed towards encouraging of equality of women seem to have been focused more towards increasing the workforce than gender equality. More than 600,000 Cubans who were idle migrated from the island in 1960’s and hence to fill up the vacancies, women were brought n picture. They were trained for these works which they had denied before and they also played an important part in education and health campaigns.Cuba in the Batista’s regime had acess to only limited education that too in varied geographical regions, being more restricted in the rural arean and the ghettos of the poor. Hence it was also limited by economic status. In the years preceding 1959, Cuba had the highest ill-literacy rates in ltin America. It had reached a peak of 24% in children under 10 years. Public education was nil, there was no infrastructure or presence of teachers to provide satisfactory quality of educstion while the acess of univers ity was limited to the privelliged classes.Castr in the sierra time had promised the resurrection of illiteracy within a year for which he needed to solve two initial barrios, the lack of infrastructure and that of teachers. Castro had declared 1961 as the year of education when the rebel army personally taught the illiterate and had launched the famous slogan â€Å"If you don’t know; learn, if you know; teach†. Due to the shortages of school buildings, Castro transformed military barracks into educational complexes and many new schools were built all along the city, focusing in the rural and undeveloped areas.Between 1959 when Fidel began his policy of school expansion and 1962 more schools had been developed than in the past history of 8 years of Cuba. In the following years, Castro implemented a training programme for 271,000 teachers. To reach all areas, they were sent all across the counry to teach people at their homes. Literate citizens were turned into â€Å"l iterate voulenteers† in free time. Each one was dressed in olive green uniforms and were sent to country sideto teach the peasents. In the year of 1962, illiteracy dropped by 4%.The success of the campaign was spectacular and as such it increased the hopes in revolution. The aim of the literacy campaign had been twofold. It is a known fact that when women look into fashion magazines and watch television, there are always contents shown based on weight, beauty, and body care. Every woman has an agenda to keep herself looking in an appropriate manner, but there are women who take a life risk to achieve and impossible look that they are not naturally born with. This article is based on this subject, there are many studies made to find out what exactly have the influence over some women who want that ideal beauty look.
